If your goal is to keep costs as low as possible, these are the first places you should look. These stores carry their own private-label goods alongside national brands. They don't have fancy layouts, but their prices on staples like dairy, eggs, pasta, and bottled water are unmatched.
BİM: Generally considered the king of budget shopping in Turkey. It has minimal advertising and basic cardboard-box shelf displays, but excellent prices. Their private-label dairy brand (Dost) is reliable and cheap.
A101: BİM’s fiercest competitor. They offer a slightly wider variety of non-food weekly specials (household items, cheap beach gear, electronics) alongside very affordable staples.
Şok (pronounced Shok): Slightly more colorful than BİM and A101, Şok frequently runs "buy one, get one" or heavily discounted promotions on brand-name snacks, sodas, and cleaning supplies.
Local Tip: These discount chains are usually tucked a block or two back from the immediate harbor tourist front (such as up on Atatürk Boulevard or the streets leading toward the bus station). They do not sell alcohol or tobacco.
